Allergy-friendly Italian in the city! - Fratelli Fresh

Image
Establishment: Fratelli Fresh, various locations Cuisine: Italian Allergy information: they have a number of options which are or can be made dairy, egg, nut and seafood free and their menu clearly lists vegetarian and gluten free dishes. They have also recently added dairy free cheese to their menu Suggestions: The linguine with chili, lemon, rocket, sundried tomato and pangrattato, along with the rosemary focaccia are dairy, egg and nut free and make for a delicious dinner I've previously mentioned that I don't really eat at a lot of Italian restaurants, and I've actually had some pretty patchy experiences at them too, due to cross contamination. This has inevitably meant that when I've found safe spots in the past, they've become frequently visited favourites.  There was Nirello's at the end of Westpoint Blacktown, next to the Library, with their delicious (and completely dairy and egg free) Penne Napolitana. Sadly, they closed not long after some...

Meaty goodness at Harbourside - Hurricanes Grill, Darling Harbour

Image
Establishment: Hurricanes Grill Cuisine: Modern Steakhouse and Ribs Allergy information: Their menu has a number of options that are dairy, egg, seafood and gluten free. Staff are happy to assist with any allergies Suggestions: Full. Rack. Pork. Dairy, egg, seafood and nut free and amazingly good. Their basting is delicious.  Another favourite with my family and we tried it after some rave reviews from my brother about the ribs. We've been coming to Hurricanes for years and before they finally opened up some locations closer to home, we would willingly trek out to Darling Harbour from the west so that we could get chowing down on some quality meat. It was another one of the earliest places that became a safe regular spot for me to eat and thankfully, my family love it just as much as I do so each return has been a happy one! From our very first time there, things went really smoothly allergy-wise. Our server was so helpful and as soon as I queried the ingredient...

Allergy-safe brunching! - Caffe Cherry Beans

Image
Saturday Brunching with my dearest Ma. Establishment: Caffe Cherry Beans Cuisine: Cafe, all day breakfast Allergy Information: Some dishes are dairy, egg, seafood and nut free or can be made vegan Suggestions: the BLAT, without aioli, with the herby fries or the garnish salad (it's simple, but the balsamic glaze is lovely) I don't generally eat at a lot of cafes. Perhaps on occasion, I'll grab a tea or a cold drink with a friend but for the most part, I don't usually find it that easy to find allergy-safe foods at cafes. Of course, that tends to mean that if you're in shopping centres or out and about, your main options are fast food or restaurants. Minus places like cafes, which tend to serve that bit more lightly and quickly than if you decide to sit down in a restaurant, you don't have much of a happy medium. Don't get me wrong, I can enjoy both quite easily, but it is also nice to have some quicker eats options for food, particularly in the mi...

Munching on pork buns - New Shanghai

Image
Establishment: New Shanghai, Sydney CBD, Ashfield, Chatswood Cuisine: modern Shanghai-style cuisine Allergy information: a number of dishes are entirely dairy, egg, seafood and nut free Suggestions: pan fried pork buns, pork and chive dumplings, spinach with garlic – all those together make for a pretty great meal (and for a pretty decent price)! When you’re allergic to seafood and fish sauce, eating at a lot of Asian places can often be quite difficult. Growing up, it was always safest for me to have a plain bowl of rice because there was either fish sauce or oyster sauce in just about everything and they could never guarantee my dish would be safely free of any seafood. Thankfully, growing up Filo, I like my rice so with the promise of a trip to Maccas once the family or the friends were done with Yum Cha, I would happily dip through my bowl, improve on my chopstick skills and enjoy the company. What this meant though, was that for the majority of my life, I was one of ...
